Proposed revisions to air quality standard for nitrogen dioxide

On July 15, the Environmental Protection Agency published a proposed rule revising the primary national ambient air quality standard (NAAQS) for oxides of nitrogen measured as nitrogen dioxide, or NO2.  The proposal will establish a new short-term standard within the range of 80 to 100 parts per billion (ppb) NO2, and will require NO2 monitoring along major highways.  A final rule will be issued by January 22, 2010.
